University Quilts started with a graduating senior, a shoebox of college shirts, and a mom who couldn't bear to donate a single one. What began as a single Christmas gift is now a small studio dedicated to one thing: turning the shirts your family can't throw away into keepsakes they'll pass down.

Every quilt is made here, by us. We fuse a backing onto each square so a stretchy shirt behaves like cloth, cut every block by hand, sew them together, and stitch the finished quilt right the way through on the same machines a professional quilter would use. Nothing is outsourced overseas and nothing is rushed.

The part we're proudest of is the part that happens before any of that. Everyone else asks you to post a box of irreplaceable shirts and trust them. We ask you to photograph them instead — a sheet of ordinary paper beside each one is enough to tell us the true size — so you can lay the whole quilt out on screen, move things until it's right, and see exactly what you're getting. Only then does anything get cut. It's why we take a $200 deposit rather than the whole price up front: you shouldn't pay in full for something you haven't seen.
